For Immediate Release: Wabash Valley Family Sports Center appoints new executive director
Terre Haute, Ind: The Wabash Valley Family Sports Center announced today that it has named Josh Miley, of Terre Haute, Ind., as its new Executive Director.
"Growing up, staying active was a huge part of my life from running, lifting and being involved in many sports," said Miley, who grew up playing sports in the former Glenn Civic Center and then at the Sports Center since its opening in 1998. "The Sports Center has been a huge part of my life, allowing me to train and be involved in the youth programs. More importantly it allowed my family to maintain a healthy lifestyle."
Miley has been running youth basketball teams and clinics for 8 years, and now he is getting to live out his passion. "Getting to work with sports, kids and their families is so rewarding. I am thankful for the opportunity to get to make a difference in the Wabash Valley," said Miley.
The Sports Center serves over 3,000 youth and adults through programming for youth and adult basketball, youth volleyball, indoor soccer and before/after school care. The facility also houses a full gym with gymnastics equipment, two full courts available for team and individual use and event rental space. Membership and day passes are open to the public.
"We are so excited to have Josh join the team at the Sports Center. He brings a wealth of knowledge in the areas of youth programming, athletics and leadership," said Tom Newlin, president of the Sports Center board of directors. "Terre Haute needs places like the Sports Center to serve the youth of our community and provide a place for our kids to learn teamwork and have healthy activities. Josh is positioned to help the Sports Center do just that."
The Sports Center is situated adjacent to the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, and is part of 240 acres just east of the Terre Haute International Airport. The course consists of an external loop of 3 km and four internal loops and has played host to numerous championship meets, including the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Regionals, Division III Regionals, the men's and women's NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships and the Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regionals. It has also become the host site of the state high school championship meet for Indiana.
"We look forward to maintaining a safe and fun environment for the entire community at the Sports Center," added Miley.
Miley graduated from West Vigo High School and attended Lindenwood University, where he played basketball and golf on scholarship, majoring in physical education. Miley and his wife Ashley have two children, Carsan (10) and Camryn (4).
